A busy autumn for the HybridEcho Team
The HybridEcho team has been highly active during the last weeks, sharing and discussing their latest research at numerous events. In September, the group hosted the Interdisciplinary Ultrasound Symposium (UltrasounDD) for the first time, welcoming more than 50 participants from diverse fields to Dresden. Engineers, clinicians, researchers, and industry leaders met to exchange knowledge and explore future interdisciplinary collaborations in ultrasound research. The HybridEcho team also contributed to the AI and Electronics for Medicine conference, organized by the EKFZ for Digital Health and SEMECO (BMBF funded Clusters4Future). Moritz Herzog and his team presented their work at the exhibition, explaining their advancements in medical ultrasound technology to Dr. Lars Gerlitz from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and PD Dr. Benjamin Clemens from Projektträger Jülich, responsible for SEMECO projects.
From September 22–26, the HybridEcho team attended the 2024 IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Joint Symposium in Taiwan to showcase their latest developments in medical ultrasound technology. They presented six scientific posters and delivered a lecture on topics ranging from hardware and signals to clinical use cases. This event provided a great opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss research, and learn about other fascinating international projects. In addition, Tina Gabriel and Julian Kober participated in the 90-second pitch competition, securing 1st and 2nd place, respectively – congratulations!
In early October, HybridEcho joined the Annual Conference for Visceral Medicine, hosted by the DGVS (German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive, and Metabolic Diseases) in Leipzig. The team presented their recent findings in various conference sessions and demonstrated their technology in the exhibition hall, engaging in fruitful discussions with clinical experts from across Germany. They also hosted a session at the intersection of medicine and technology. As part of their work on new probe designs, the team showcased ergonomic prototypes, gathering valuable feedback from clinicians.
During the first week of October, Moritz Herzog and Johanna Pfeifer attended DLT2024 (Dreiländertreff) in Salzburg, Austria. This multidisciplinary annual ultrasound meeting brings together experts from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland to discuss innovative techniques and research in the field of ultrasound. The event provided a platform for exploring new developments, testing cutting-edge equipment, and gaining insights through lectures, workshops, and case discussions. Johanna Pfeifer presented research on quantitative ultrasound and its application to focal liver lesions, while Nicole Kampfrath showcased work on improving ultrasound image quality. The conference facilitated meaningful exchange with national and international partners, fostering further collaborations.
The HybridEcho team is also committed to science communication and public outreach. Science enthusiasts can explore the importance of enhancing the quality of medical ultrasound images at the interactive science exhibition “Dr. Zukunft – Medical Technology from Dresden Science” at the COSMO Science Forum in Dresden. The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Thursday, 3:00 to 6:00 pm, and is free of charge.
