From Piezoelectrics to polyCMUTs: Emerging Trends in Ultrasound Transducers
Ultrasound transducers have matured over recent decades to deliver the performance required for conventional medical imaging and non-destructive testing. However, established piezoelectric technologies are increasingly being complemented by emerging micromachined transducer approaches. This talk introduces polymer-based Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (polyCMUTs), an emerging technology enabling rapid and cost-effective fabrication of miniaturized ultrasound devices. The presentation will discuss system design, prototype characterization and testing, as well as challenges associated with emerging wearable ultrasound applications.
